It has been an absolute honour for Arranbee Medals & Framing to refurbish and frame two-medal sets that belong to a local Hastings family. These family treasures will now be kept safe for many decades to come and can be handed down through the family.
Dr Randal Vivan McDonnell, M.C., M.B.: Captain, R.A.M.C., B.E.F., France, enlisted in London in August 1914, and after crossing to France on 20th, served with Lady Dudley’s Australian Voluntary Hospital, Wimereux, and later as R.M.O. 8th Warwick and 6th Bedford Regts., returning to Australia in November 1917. Awarded M.C. and Mentioned in Despatches. Dr McDonnell’s early education was at St. Ignatius’ College and further Education through the University of Sydney.
Captain McDonnell is the son of Major E.P. McDonnell who served in both the South African War 1899 – 1902 and World War I 1914-1918 with the Army Medical Corps. Through personal sacrifice both of these gentlemen have served their country with pride and honour, we are honoured to be a part of this project and are proud to have given a new life to these once buried treasures. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.
